Indian Wells is a small community of less than 5,000 residents in between Palm Desert and La Quinta. It’s considered one of the wealthiest enclaves in California. The Vintage Club is a private membership community that residents include Bill Gates, Charles Koch, Dennis Washington and Phillip Anshultz. The BNP Paribas is held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Stadium 1 is the largest at the complex and the second largest in the world. Often called Tennis Paradise, the Tennis Club provides a world class facility and the opportunity to “Play where the Pros play”.
Housing costs are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don’t compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in California.
Of important note, Indian Wells is also a city of artists. There are more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape the city’s character.
Another notable thing is that Indian Wells is an extremely popular destination for tourists and seasonal residents. So much of the population is seasonal such that the city’s population swells significantly during the vacation season, and drops again when the season ends. Much of the local economy is centered around tourism; some businesses may be operated only during the high season. During the low season, year-round residents will notice that the city is a substantially quieter place to live.
