Rancho Mirage is a medium-sized city located in the state of California. With a population of 16,999 people and five constituent neighborhoods, Rancho Mirage is the 339th largest community in California.
Housing costs in Rancho Mirage are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here don’t compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in California.
Sunnylands Center and Gardens, the former Annenberg Estate, is a 200 acre, mid century modern estate with its own private golf course. Often called the”Western White House”, Walter and Leonore Annenberg frequently hosted both political leaders and famous entertainers at Sunnylands. During the Annenberg’s lifetime, eight U.S. presidents, including Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Clinton, George H. W. Bush, George W. Bush and Barack Obama visited the estate. Following the Islamic Revolution in Iran in the late 1970s, the family of the Shah of Iran was invited to seek refuge at Sunnylands. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip visited for lunch, and Prince Charles made occasional weekend visits.[5] U.K. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was also a visitor.[7]
More recently, Oracle founder Larry Ellison purchased Porcupine Creek, a sprawling 230 acre estate with a golf course that was known as the “most exclusive golf course in America”. Ellison who bought almost the entire island of Lanai and created the Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort Ellison is bringing his talent to Porcupine Creek and has opened the Sensei Porcupine Creek.
